Susan Mackenzie

Susan Mackenzie
Director

Susan Mackenzie is Director of Philanthropy UK and Managing Editor of the Philanthropy UK Newsletter. She also is Editor of A Guide to Giving 2nd ed. (2005), the essential handbook for philanthropists. She contributed to Why Rich People Give (2004), the first major British study into the wealthy and their giving patterns, experiences and expectations, and to Cultural Giving: Successful donor development for arts and heritage organisations (2006). Susan's previous consultancy work has included strategy formulation, donor marketing and fundraising strategy, charity evaluation and social impact assessment. She has spoken and been quoted widely on British philanthropy.

Susan has over ten years’ experience in corporate strategy and business development in the private sector, including as a health care equity analyst at Deutsche Bank. She earned an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business, where she specialised in non-profit management, and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Susan is a trustee of the Women’s Sport and Fitness Foundation.


Ben Eyre 
Writer/Communications Executive

Ben Eyre joined Philanthropy UK in June 2008 as a Writer/Communications Executive.

After reading English at Oxford University Ben worked in I.T. where he gained his first experience of venture philanthropy. He has also worked with specialist private client advisors as a headhunter and brings a broad understanding and skill base to Philanthropy UK.

Ben has experience of writing and editing features, reviews and columns for a number of national and specialist publications.


David Gold

David Gold
Chair of the Advisory Board

After following a City Career at UBS Asset Management, David joined Business in the Community (BITC) as head of the London Division. At BITC, David learnt much about the voluntary sector, notably Homelessness, Diversity and Volunteering. In 2000 he bought and became CEO of Prospectus Ltd, an organisation that works exclusively in the not-for-profit sector in the areas of recruitment, temps, advertising and design.

In the not-for-profit sector, David is Chair of A Glimmer of Hope (UK) (a grant-making trust) and Chair of the Advisory Board of Philanthropy UK. He is a board member of FutureBuilders (England), FutureBuilders Diversity group, Streetshine (social enterprise), Greenhouse Schools, Volunteer Reading Help and the Scarman Trust. David serves on the Think Tank at the Ethiopian Embassy.

David has some mentoring roles in the voluntary sector. He speaks regularly on issues regarding Philanthropy.
