New philanthropist board boosts The Big Give
, Added: 12 February 2008A wealth of experience has been brought to The Big Give (TBG) with the appointment of its board of philanthropists, which comprises twenty-two highly-successful individuals from the private, public, and charitable sectors.
The Big Give, the innovative website that enables major donors to find high level charity projects in their field of interest, has attracted the individuals, who include six members of the House of Lords, two knights of the realm and several dot-com experts, to encourage other major donors to give intelligently and provide expert feedback on the website.
The brainchild of Alec Reed, founder of Reed Specialist Recruitment and The Reed Foundation, TBG encourages high-net-worth philanthropists to proactively identify suitable projects, and gives charities the chance to attract funding of up to £10m.
Launched to charities in October 2007, the website is already advertising over £1bn worth of projects, and although it has only just been launched to potential donors, it has already attracted considerable interest from philanthropists.
Members of the board include Dr Fred Mulder, Founder of The Funding Network; Lord Salisbury, former leader of the House of Lords; Lord Joffe, chair of the Government's Giving Campaign; and Martyn Lewis CBE, Chair of Beacon Fellowship.
Alec Reed commented: "The depth of philanthropy, business, and technology expertise on the board gives us an unrivalled perspective as we develop The Big Give into an essential tool for high-level philanthropy."
