Prince Harry helps African school
, Added: 15 July 2008Prince Harry is helping to refurbish the only school for mentally handicapped children in Lesotho.
The prince’s charity, Sentebale, is supporting the project at the Thuso E Tla Tsoakae Community Handicapped School in Butha Buthe in the north of the country, which caters for 43 children with serious mental and physical disabilities.
The Prince, and 26 colleagues from the Household Cavalry’s Blues and Royals regiment, will complete work on the school in three weeks, which will save 360 ‘man-days’ for contractors. Prince Harry hopes to build another school to help handicapped children in the centre of the country and one in the south when the current work is finished. He said that Sentebale could “make a massive, massive difference”.
Prince Harry first went to Lesotho in 2004 to work in an orphanage during his gap year, at the invitation of Prince Seeiso of Lesotho. Both princes act as patrons of Sentebale. The charity provided £71,000 for the refurbishment of the school.
