Skoll Centre research shows ‘positive’ VP relationship with social entrepreneurs

By Roxanne Clark, Added: 30 November 2007

New research on venture philanthropy (VP) indicates that 90% of social entrepreneurs surveyed have a positive relationship with their venture philanthropy partners.

Surveyed as part of the research for a Skoll Centre working paper, all but one of the 20 respondents described their relationship with their VP partner as "positive".

Second in a series of working papers on venture philanthropy produced by the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship and sponsored by the European Venture Philanthropy Association (EVPA), and written by EVPA adviser Rob John, the report Beyond the Cheque: How venture philanthropists add value looks at the kinds of advisory services being delivered by VP organisations to social purpose organisations (SPOs).

It also looks at how they are delivered, and the level of engagement with the organisation receiving support. And it inquires into how organisations view the support of the VP funder.

Twenty six per cent of the social entrepreneurs said that financial support had been more valuable than the additional support they received when they were asked about overall impact of non-financial services. Over half (53%) felt that non-financial services greatly added value to funding support.
