Mission
Alfanar is a non-governmental, non-profit venture philanthropy fund, which supports grassroots organisations in the Arab world that promote social change.
Activities
ALI provides grants and some technical assistance to NGOs whose creative ideas address entrenched problems often as a result from inequalities in society. It supports projects in a variety of sectors including but not limited to education, health, strengthening of civil society, empowerment of women, human rights and the environment in the Arab world.
Its projects deliver services, develop skills or encourage activism. In all cases, ALI emphasises financial sustainability to decrease NGO dependence on external funding.
It currently has an office in Egypt and plans to gradually expand its presence into most, if not all, the Arab countries. It will develop long-term relationships both with the organisations it supports and also with its donors.
