Mission
SHINE supports education initiatives that encourage children and young people to raise their achievement levels. It funds organisations working with under-achieving 7-18 year olds from disadvantaged areas of Greater London and Manchester.
Activities
SHINE supports educational service providers through grant giving, advice, robust evaluation and brokering of further funding and/or in-kind support from other grant giving bodies, companies and individuals.
It supports its donors by proactively researching and recommending grant giving opportunities that will most effectively meet the aims of the trust; and by managing, monitoring and evaluating the impact of grants. It examines the programmes in a procedural review, the finances in a cost benefit analysis, and the outcomes in an impact review.
SHINE has committed over £6.6m in grants since August 2000. The funding has come from over 100 companies and foundations and more than 600 individuals.
For individual donors
Donors can give general donations to SHINE's work, underwrite specific projects or form partnerships to replicate SHINE programmes in a designated geographical area.
SHINE can discuss specifics with potential donors, including the type, scale, location and name of projects they might like to support, as well as attendance at programme events, publicity, opportunities to support project staff and invitations to SHINE events with opportunities for networking and client entertainment.
