Nick Perks, our Green Giving columnist, is stepping down as EFN Co-ordinator to take up the post of Trust Secretary with the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust. Florence Miller, currently Co-Director of Together Green, will start work as the new EFN co-ordinator from mid-June. In this, his last Green Giving column, he puts the case for philanthropic networking:

The sector is ready for ‘trench warfare’ if that is what it takes to get the government to remove the controversial cap on tax relief for charitable donations, said philanthropist and Community Foundation Network chairman Matthew Bowcock, when he spoke at last month's (April 25th) Charity Tax Group’s (CTG) annual conference that marked its 30 anniversary.

This year, for the first time in 11 years, 100 of the richest people in Britain donated at least 1% of their residual wealth, the just published (April 29th) Sunday Times Giving List shows.
It indicates that the culture of philanthropy continues to grow in the UK. With 150 donors each involved in charitable transactions of more than £1m in the past 12 months, there is a more broadly based culture of philanthropy among the wealthiest people in the country than ever recorded before.

Culture Minister Jeremy Hunt may be facing tough questions over BskyB, but a new report on philanthropic arts funding may add to his woes; it shows that the sector regards his Philanthropy in the Arts Agenda as a widespread failure that will lead to a huge increase in the number of organisations turning to individual philanthropists for funding.
