A new report on the future of philanthropy in the UK states that community foundations will need to increase their endowments by £2.5bn over the next 20 years if they are to be sustainable.

Gazing Idly by George Hepburn, chief executive of the Community Foundation for Tyne and Wear and Northumberland, recommends that the value of foundations needs to increase dramatically if they are to continue to make an impact within society. Writing on the topic in the September issue of Philanthropy UK’s quarterly newsletter, Hepburn adds: ‘another important challenge for community philanthropy is to help donors put their giving into this wider context and develop the breadth and audacity of their philanthropy.’

For more information on the report published in September visit the Community Foundation's website.
