Citi have partnered with Ashoka’s Changemakers.net to launch the Changemakers Competition, ‘Banking on social change: seeking financial solutions for all.’

The competition is designed to challenge the world’s entrepreneurs to provide financial services for all and achieve economic and social change.

Charlie Brown, Changemakers executive director, said, “We’re looking for new financing possibilities, such as mobile banking, program investment, social financing and peer-to-peer lending. These methods are already starting to help people better access, spend and save their money, so we want to offer them to millions more worldwide.”

Participants must sign up to Changemakers online community to be able to enter. The closing date for entries is 1 October 2008.

The panel of six judges will select 12 finalists to be profiled on the Changemakers website where the online community will select the three winners, to be announced on 1st December.

The winners will be showcased on the Changemakers website and each will receive $5,000 (£2,500).

Changemakers is an initiative of Ashoka, which provides solutions and resources needed to help everyone become a changemaker, and explores the fundamental principles of successful social innovation around the world.
