Boris Johnson has appointed Chris Robinson as chief executive of the Mayor’s Fund for London.

Robinson previously ran Off the Streets and into Work (OSW), a London-based charity that has helped 1,000 homeless people into jobs, and set up the UK branch of Right to Play, which uses sport to help disadvantaged children. Robinson has links to high-profile sporting figures.

Robinson told The Evening Standard (23/20/2008), “I’m London born and bred and proud of it. However, I know from my own early life here that it can be tough if you are poor. I can now use the experience that I have built up to make an impact on child poverty in the city.”

The Fund, which will launch later this year, aims to raise millions of pounds from the City and intends to invest in a wide range of voluntary sector projects across London.

Sir Trevor Chinn, chairman of the Fund, wrote about his giving journey in the September 2008 issue of the Philanthropy UK Newsletter.
