First private Romanian foundation joins the EFC
The first private Romanian foundation joined international membership association for grant-makers the European Foundation Centre (EFC) this July, to benefit from other EFC members’ experience and show the ‘important steps’ in social responsibility that have been taken in Romania.
The Dinu Patriciu Foundation, founded by the eponymous billionaire Romanian businessman, promotes education and supports underprivileged children through school and university by offering awards, scholarships and bursaries. Through these programmes the foundation helps to foster a spirit of initiative and social responsibility in young people.
Tincuta Baltag, director general of the Dinu Patriciu Foundation, said she had seen the positive work EFC does in connecting foundations, improving the visibility of the sector and enhancing the power of philanthropy in Europe. “Membership will allow us to convey the message that Romania is taking important steps towards serious and sustainable social responsibility. We are also very interested to learn from other members of the EFC.”
The EFC is dedicated to creating an environment in which European philanthropy can advance the public good in Europe and beyond.
