A new philanthropy advisory firm has been launched this week by Sean Stannard-Stockton, author of the leading Tactical Philanthropy blog.

Tactical Philanthropy Advisors will provide comprehensive, ongoing advisory services for individuals and families with $1m (£615,000) or more in philanthropic assets, offering services for private foundations as well as donor advised funds.

In addition the firm will work with wealth managers, tax accountants and family officers on their clients’ philanthropic plans.

Stannard-Stockton, chief executive of the new company, said that major donors use professional advisors to help them with many financial matters: “We offer a similar advisory role for donors who do not want to ‘outsource’ their giving, but want to maximise the impact of their giving by working with an expert advisor.”

The company has committed to support the work of the Philanthropic Ventures Foundation, a charity that helps donors of all levels of wealth to engage in creative philanthropy.

Philanthropic Ventures Foundation, led by maverick grant-maker Bill Somerville, author of Grassroots Philanthropy, has already provided solutions for Tactical Philanthropy clients.

The firm is in the process of launching the Tactical Philanthropy Knowledge Network, a network of professional grant-makers who are committed to the idea that knowledge sharing leads to greater social impact. Philanthropy thought leader Jed Emerson has agreed to act as chair of the network.
