Triodos Bank has launched a new online tool which gives customers a way to find out about the organisations their money funds.

The new ‘Know where your money goes’ microsite allows customers to see how Triodos lends and invests the money they entrust to it in the UK and Ireland. Visitors can search by keyword, location or sector, such as ‘organic’ or ‘fair trade’, or click on the map to zoom in to a region.

Charles Middleton, Triodos Bank’s UK managing director, said “Transparency has emerged as a popular buzz-word in banking; not least because the financial crisis has highlighted just how complex and opaque many banks' operations have become. If nothing else, the sub-prime fiasco that heralded the crisis revealed that many banks, let alone their customers, simply didn’t know where the money they invested had ended up.”

“We have a radically different approach, embracing transparency and actively connecting savers and investors with the progressive organisations their money is supporting,” Middleton continued.

Triodos aims to launch another website giving details of its micro-finance investments in 40 countries.
