Giving Forum winds up after 7 years
After seven years “keeping the fires of philanthropy burning in parliament and beyond” The Giving Forum lead by Lord Best is to hold a final event and celebration of its achievement on November 2nd at the House of Lords.
Back in 2004, following on from the work of Lord Joffe and the Giving Campaign, the forum was established and has met regularly to discuss all matters related to giving, to share knowledge and on occasion to call ministers and others to account.
Lord Best says: “I have been fortunate to meet an astounding number of expert and enthusiastic individuals – colleagues from within Parliament and from the charitable and private sectors – who have demonstrated great resolve in working to build a culture of giving in the UK. It is great to see that the perseverance of this group is starting to pay off, as many new allies spring up – from governments, telecommunication giants and indeed young social entrepreneurs – with exciting ideas of how we can best harness the generosity of this nation.
“I believe that the work started by the Giving Forum can now be taken forward by these many and varied ambassadors.”
,Among those paying tribute to the work of the forum will be Nick Hurd MP, minister for Civil Society.
