Mission
As a charity, CAF works towards a world in which giving effectively in a committed way is a recognised part of everyday life.
Activities
CAF supports both individual and company donors, as well as charities, by:
- Helping individuals to find charities and donate to them tax efficiently.
- Helping companies set up donation, volunteering and community investment schemes.
- Offering charities low-cost banking, financial and training services to make donations go further.
For individual donors
CAF Trust
If you have at least £10,000 to give to charity, you can set up a CAF Trust as a way to give long-term support to your favourite causes. You build up a capital sum and give the income to charity once it's invested. You can also choose to distribute the capital to charity at a later date. A CAF Trust gives you the features of an independent trust, while CAF manages the administration.
When you set up a CAF Trust, you get access to personalised consultancy and advice. CAF's advisory service can help you to identify charities, either in your area or within specific themes or causes.
You can fund the Trust in a number of different ways - simultaneously if you wish - using bank transfers, cheques by payroll, and by donating shares.
You can use the Trust to donate to your favourite causes - using your 'charity chequebook', CharityCard, or online, and you receive quarterly account statements.
CAF Charity Account
The CAF Charity Account is a convenient and tax-efficient way to give.
It works in a similar way to a current account, but holds only funds that you put aside to give to your favourite causes.
When you open an account, you receive a CharityCard and 'charity chequebook' so that you can make donations by post, in person, by telephone or online to any recognised charity you wish to support.
Cause-related funds
If you have a minimum of £500, you can invest in CAF's cause-related funds. The Engaging Young Lives and Fulfilling Older Lives funds each benefit a group of charities that have been identified through expert research by New Philanthropy Capital. Each charity has a proven track record of innovative and effective work tackling some of the issues that face young and older people.
There are three ways to give:
- You can donate to the Funds through your CAF Charity Account or CAF Trust Account, making your donation online, over the phone, or with a 'charity cheque'.
- You can make one-off donations -- minimum £500 -- to either fund online or over the phone (+44 (0)1732 520 198), using your credit or debit card.
- You can donate by post, sending your cheque (minimum £500) to: Charities Aid Foundation, c/o Trusts Department, 25 Kings Hill Avenue, West Malling, Kent ME19 4TA. Please make cheques payable to the Engaging Young Lives Fund or the Fulfilling Older Lives Fund. Your donation will help fund this work, and you'll receive regular updates on what's been achieved with your gift.
