Mission

  • To spread love and humanity to beings who suffer unnecessarily
  • To shine the light of awareness on exclusion and pain
  • And, to offer A Glimmer of Hope to those who need one

Activities

A Glimmer of Hope UK

A Glimmer of Hope UK is dedicated to making a significant and lasting improvement in the lives of excluded young people in London. To date it has contributed more than £1.4m towards this aim. It achieves this by funding enterprising projects that focus on building the self-esteem and skills of excluded youth under the age of 25 through equality of opportunity and respect. A similar project operates in Austin, Texas.

A Glimmer of Hope Foundation

A Glimmer of Hope Foundation primarily focuses on making a sustainable difference in the lives of the rural poor in Ethiopia through its innovative and direct approach to aid and development. Since its launch in 2001, A Glimmer of Hope has helped approximately two million rural Ethiopians to help themselves.

In Ethiopia, the Foundation works in small, isolated communities through indigenous self-help organisations which provide clean, accessible water; schools and classrooms; health care; agricultural support including veterinary clinics and irrigation; and emergency relief in crisis situations.

A Glimmer of Hope's model is one of social investors working with social entrepreneurs to create social profit. The Foundation's focus on people - and its emphasis on trust - extends to its partners and staff.

100 percent of donated funds are directed to the partners serving its target communities. This is made possible by the income arising from the foundation's endowment being used to cover all operating overhead.

For individual donors

A Glimmer of Hope works with individual donors on a case-by-case basis. As we form partnerships with local organisations, we are not ourselves able to offer volunteering opportunities in Ethiopia.

All donations will be gratefully received; a minimum donation is required on a case-by-case basis for named projects in Ethiopia. Please contact the office to discuss opportunities.
